SPECIAL COLLECTIONS LIBRARY EXHIBITION OCTOBER 2022:

Manuel’s Food Market has been a community meeting place and center for activism for nearly 100 years. This years exhibition is organized around the cultural significance of Manuel Sanchez, founder of Manuel’s Food Market and Richard Martinez, son-in-law and community organizer, and their involvement in the Democratic Party. Manuel was entered into the congressional record for the longest serving ward chairman in the nation in the 1990s. Manuel’s Food Market served for many years as the “unofficial headquarters for the democratic party.” The exhibition will feature local democratic candidate campaigning materials, newspaper articles and relics of interest from Manuel’s Food Market.
